Abstract

Flocket was a project to plan a business model of new media. The service our group designed was called Flocket, online social media to manage flat sharing. Users can use some useful functions such as "bill manager", "chore list", "schedule" etc, which help them to manage their everyday lives in more efficient way. Since the management of these tasks are something which is quite close to people, the service also helps users to learn how novelty of new media could enhance their daily lives.

Brief of the project and the initial research

The first step of the project was to understand the "client"'s demands by analysing the brief, and to set an appropreate target audience group. As a researcher, my initial approach was to find out what kind of existing service there are around the client, and who is using these services. Providing these information to the team and considering the research result from other members who were in charge of visual design, technical part, and marketing strategy, we decided to target people in their age of 20's to 30's, sharing the accommodation with other people.

Competitor analysis and user research

The next action was to research competitors more in detail based on the functions of our own service. By doing so, we tried to make our product more unique and different from other services. This process was done by working closely with a member who is in charge of marketing strategy. At the same time, a simple user research was conducted by studying statistics, arranging online survey and quick interview. In addition, general statistics revealed a demographic of the target users, and an online survey was conducted in order to find out how people manage their lives in flat sharing in general. Along with the development, I also tried a quick interview to examine whether the plan would be feasible as Business.

Final research was about the issue of intellectual property. As a business plan, we also considered how we could deal with the client and protect our right.
